U.S. Representative Mike Bost (IL-12) today introduced the bipartisan VA COST SAVINGS Enhancement Act, which will save the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) tens of millions of dollars annually and improve care for our veterans. The legislation requires the VA to install on-site medical waste treatment systems in VA facilities where it is determined this will result in a cost-savings within 5 years.

U.S. Representative Mike Bost (IL-12), chairman of the Congressional Fire Services Caucus, announced he will co-sponsor the bipartisan Never Forget the Heroes: Permanent Authorization of the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund Act (H.R. 1327). The legislation would ensure that all 9/11 first responders and survivors who have been injured by the toxins at Ground Zero and have certified 9/11 illnesses would receive their full compensation through the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund (VCF). The bill would also close the funding gap recently announced by the VCF Special Master.

The grant allows the Economic Development Administration (EDA) to formulate a strategy that supports private capital investment and job creation in Southern Illinois. This Economic Development Administration (EDA) planning investment will support capital investment and job creation through the Greater Egypt Regional Planning and Development Commission in Franklin, Jackson, Jefferson, Perry and Williamson counties.

U.S. Representative Mike Bost (IL-12) led a bipartisan delegation of congressional leaders in urging U.S. Department of Transportation support for a key infrastructure project in the St. Louis region. The letter, addressed to Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao, requests federal funding to assist in the rehabilitation of the 129-year-old Merchants Bridge. The bridge serves a local area rail network that is the nation’s second largest rail terminal by interchange and third largest by volume.

The Bipartisan Index measures how often a member of Congress introduces bills that succeed in attracting co-sponsors from members of the other party, and how often they in turn co-sponsor a bill introduced from across the aisle.

U.S. Representative Mike Bost (IL-12) today demanded that Rep. Ann Wagner's (MO-2) Born Alive Survivors Protection Act be brought to the floor for a vote. Rep. Bost, a cosponsor of the bill, asked for unanimous consent for the legislation to be considered. His request was immediately refused with no explanation provided by the majority. This is the 16th time House Democrats have blocked consideration of the Born Alive Survivors Protection Act.

This legislation will strengthen and enhance the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ (VA) registry of service members and veterans who were exposed to toxic chemicals and fumes from open-air burn pits in Iraq and Afghanistan.
