Murphysboro's Mike Bost was sworn in Tuesday, Jan. 6 in Washington as a member of the 114th Congress. Bost, the U.S. representative for Illinois' 12th Congressional district, had around 70 family and friends in attendance to share in the event – a moment he described as "really amazing."
And while Bost has no doubt provided Murphysboro with a boost of civic pride, he has also given the town something it hasn't had in 107 years.
Bost became only the third person with Murphysboro ties to serve in the United States Congress. It's a group that also includes renowned John A. Logan and perhaps lesser-known George Washington Smith.
