Already in office, freshman U.S. Rep. Mike Bost was no less emotional Friday while taking the oath of office — for a second time.
Bost and his newly elected congressional peers, John Shimkus and Rodney Davis, were each sworn in by federal judges as part of a ceremony at the Benton Civic Center to give constituents and family an opportunity to witness their pledges.
The center was full of observers, including Bost’s father, who was unable to be in Washington, D.C., for the official Jan. 6 swearing-in. Reflecting on the history and meaning of the 71-word oath and speaking those words in front of his 84-year-old father was a moving moment for the Murphysboro Republican, Bost said.
