Washington, D.C.—Rep. Mike Bost (IL-12) released the names of the winner of the 2016 Congressional Art Competition, as well as an online competition on his congressional Facebook page.
“We had an impressive 53 pieces of artwork that were submitted by high school students from ten different schools in Southern Illinois,” said Rep. Bost. “Each talented student submitted their own vision of the best that Southern Illinois offers; and they were amazing. We commend each student for their participation and for letting Southern Illinois’ talent really shine.”
The winner of the Congressional Art Competition was “Sunset Sovereignty,” by Carrie Thompson of Marion High School. Selected by an independent panel of local judges, Carrie’s artwork will hang in the Cannon Tunnel in the U.S. Capitol for the next year.
The Facebook “Fan Favorite” that received the most “likes” on Rep. Bost’s Facebook page is “Fly Me Home,” by Starr Shadowens of Carterville High School.
