WASHINGTON – U.S. Representative Mike Bost (IL-12) today voted for a short-term funding package that will keep the federal government operating through February 8th and extends funding for the state Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) for six years. The funding measure, which was passed earlier in the day by the U.S. Senate, now goes to the President’s desk for his signature.

“I’m pleased the Washington Democrats stopped their senseless shutdown,” said Bost. “It was bad for kids on the CHIP program, bad for military personnel, bad for our seniors, and bad for federal employees in Southern Illinois. And for what? They played politics over an immigration measure that has nothing to do with funding the government.  Either way, we can now provide six years of certainty to the nearly 20,000 children who rely on CHIP in my district and spend the next two weeks ensuring we don’t have another shutdown-for-show on February 8th.”
