Washington, D.C. – President Donald Trump today signed into law bipartisan legislation authored by U.S. Representative Mike Bost (IL-12) to provide a cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) to veterans. Bost introduced the Veterans’ Compensation COLA Act of 2018 (H.R. 4958) in February and helped guide it to passage in the House earlier this year before passing the Senate last month.

“Americans owe a debt of gratitude to our nation’s bravest individuals – those who have served and defended our freedom and liberty,” said Bost. “As a country, we must remember the sacrifices of our veterans who have bravely served our nation, as well as their families, and I remain committed to providing the best care possible for them. I thank my colleagues in Congress and President Trump for coming together in a bipartisan effort to give our veterans the benefits they have earned.”

Background:

The Veterans Compensation Cost-of-Living Adjustment Act of 2018 would increase the rates of compensation for veterans with service-connected disabilities as well as the rates of dependency and indemnity compensation for the survivors of certain disabled veterans as of December 1, 2018, and by the same percentage as Social Security beneficiaries.
