Washington, D.C. - U.S. Representative Mike Bost today announced the Economic Development Administration (EDA) has awarded a $3.75 million grant to the Southern Illinois Airport Authority for construction of two new hangar buildings in Carbondale. The investments are expected to create 45 new jobs and facilitate the expansion of several private aviation companies, the aviation cluster, and workforce training at Southern Illinois University’s Transportation Education Center.
“This is a significant investment in Southern Illinois aviation,” said Bost. “This grant will help increase economic opportunity and aviation activity in Jackson County, and that’s a positive development for the region. This is just another example of fostering collaboration, innovation, and job creation throughout Southern Illinois.”
