Washington, D.C.— The House of Representatives today unanimously approved an appropriations amendment offered by U.S. Rep. Mike Bost (IL-12) that ensures increased opportunities for veteran-owned small businesses to compete for grants and contracts from the U.S. State Department. Similar preferences are already provided to American businesses owned by the socially and economically disadvantaged, as well as faith-based organizations.

Small businesses are the backbone of our economy,” said Bost. With more veterans coming back from their service overseas, it is imperative that we expand economic opportunities for former service members who own a small business. Our veterans have a unique perspective on the needs of the State Department and how American companies can best fulfill them. My legislation taps into that knowledge base by giving our men and women who have served a better chance to provide their expertise and positively impact our country’s economy.”
