WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Mike Bost today announced a U.S. Department of Health & Human Services grant of $1.88 million for the Southern Seven Health Department in Ullin. The grant will support the Southern Seven Head Start program, which promotes early learning for income eligible families with preschool age children in several deep Southern Illinois counties, including Alexander, Pulaski, and Union counties.

“The early years of our children’s lives are crucial to their education and development,” said Bost. “This grant will allow the Southern Seven Head Start program to continue serving children and families in Alexander, Pulaski, and Union counties, ensuring they are prepared for success in the classroom.”

HHS’s Office of Head Start (OHS) provides oversight and administers grant funding to 1,600 public and private nonprofit and for-profit organizations across the United States. Click here for more information about the Southern Seven Head Start program.
