Washington, D.C. — U.S. Representative Mike Bost (IL-12) today introduced a resolution designating the week of September 14th-20th as National Truck Driver Appreciation Week.” Bost, who worked in a family trucking business in Murphysboro, sought to recognize the dedication of the more than 3.5 million professional truck drivers nationwide.

Our truckers log thousands of miles and spend weeks away from home to keep America’s economy moving and our supply chain secure,” said Bost. “They deliver nearly 70 percent of our nation’s freight – often through storms and emergencies or to communities that are difficult to reach any other way. As one of the few former truckers in Congress, I am hopeful this resolution receives widespread support. Let’s get these committed Americans the recognition they deserve.”

“When every convenience and necessity is available on a store shelf or just a click away, it can be easy to overlook America’s 3.5 million truck drivers who pull off this logistical feat day after day,”  said American Trucking Associations Senior VP of Legislative Affairs Henry Hanscom.  “Our reliance on truckers is absolute, and our appreciation for them should be as well.  National Truck Driver Appreciation week celebrates these hardworking professionals whose dedication and sacrifice power our economy.  We applaud Representatives Bost and Carbajal for leading this bipartisan effort to give truck drivers the recognition and gratitude they richly deserve.”
