Local officials were pleased to hear of a recent decision to place tariffs on steel imports, but the real key will be when — or if — the U.S. Steel-Granite City Works reopens, they said.  The U.S. Department of Commerce issued a determination last week to apply duties on hot-rolled steel imports from seven countries: Australia, Brazil, Japan, Korea, the Netherlands, Turkey and the United Kingdom. The duties range from 3.73 percent in the Netherlands to as high as 57.04 percent in Korea.
