Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representative Mike Bost announced today that the Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity has awarded a $291,500 Workforce Training grant to Man-Tra-Con of Marion. “This is great news for the workforce of the future in Southern Illinois,” said Bost. “I hear from job creators throughout Southern Illinois all the time that they need employees with the right skills to fill in-demand jobs. I’ve consistently supported policies in Congress to renew our emphasis on trades, apprenticeships, and career and technical education. This is how we help get people into jobs that may double and triple what they’re currently earning and put them on a steady career path.” Background: The federal Workforce Training Grant program, administered through the U.S. Department of Labor is a program compiled of different apprenticeship and job training programs, all seeking to connect people to jobs and skills. These programs include the Apprenticeship Plus Adult Program, the Apprenticeship Plus Youth Program, the Talent Pipeline Program, Statewide Workforce Innovation Program, and the Youth Pathways Program. Man-Tra-Con in the City of Marion will receive $291,500 from the Apprenticeship Youth Program. This project will provide twenty individual youths the opportunity to participate in a structured apprenticeship program offering on-the-job training and employment opportunities in manufacturing. ### |
