CARBONDALE, IL – U.S. Representative Mike Bost (IL-12) today announced a U.S. Department of Health and Human Services grant of $2.8 million for the Southern Seven Health Department in Ullin. The grant will support the Southern Seven Head Start program, which promotes early learning for income eligible families with preschool age children in several deep Southern Illinois counties, including Alexander, Pulaski, and Union counties.
“As a father of three and a grandfather of 11, I’ve seen just how important the early years of our children’s lives are to their education and development,” said Rep. Bost. “This grant will provide the Southern Seven Head Start program with important resources so that they can continue to serve children and families in Alexander, Pulaski, and Union counties.”
HHS’s Office of Head Start (OHS) provides oversight and administers grant funding to 1,600 public and private nonprofit and for-profit organizations across the United States. Click here for more information about the Southern Seven Head Start program.
